Week 8 Headlines
Week had 5 good competitive games, and one game where the Vacaville Crusaders, although losing 64-0 to the NorCal Lawmen, proved once again that they have the heart of a champion.  The Crusaders are down to about 20 tough players that continue to show up and battle for a full 60 minutes each week, without a home field, and knowing as they go into these games that they have little or no chance of winning. Nevertheless, they show up and continue to fight on every play, never giving up until the clock runs out. This shows the type of heart, and love for the game encourages all of us to do this. The GCFL salutes the players on this team for showing us what football is really all about and why quitters never win. The Crusaders are not quitters by any means. In other games, California Warriors kept their 1 game lead in the NFC by narrowly defeating the Aptos Mariners 23-22.  In the Week 8 Game-of-the-Week, the East Bay Outlaws upped their win streak to 3 in a row by beating the Central Valley Rams 14-7 in a game that went down to the wire.  In another exciting game, the Oakland Vipers kept their playoff hopes alive with a 22-14 win at home over the Woodland Wolf Pack.  The North Bay Rattlers secured full control of 2nd place in the AFC with an impressive 29-14 win over the Marin Bulldogs, and the West-Sacramento Wolverines stayed undefeated and in clinched first place in the AFC with a 43-28 win over a very tough Roseville Steelers team that despite being 1-7 had not been beaten badly by any team.

Playoff Spots Still Up For Grabs In the NFC
With 2 games left in the regular season, the 4 AFC playoff teams have been determined, however, the final seeding is still wide open except for first place where the Wolverines have that clinched. The Rattlers have second place all but clinched as they have a 1 game lead with 2 games left, have beaten both teams that are 1 game behind them, and in their final game, they play the Crusaders who are currently 0-8. The Bulldogs and Wolf Pack are tied for the 3rd place in the AFC, however, the Bulldogs won the head to head game, so they basically have a one game lead with 2 games left.

In the NFC, the Warriors hold a one game lead over the Lawmen and won the head to head matchup, so the only way they won't be the top seed in the NFC is if they lose their last two games and the Lawmen win their last two games.  The real battle for playoff spots in the GCFL is between the Mariners, Outlaws and Vipers for the 3rd and 4th spots in the NFC.  The Vipers and Mariners play this weekend, and the Outlaws play the Vipers in week 10, so this is still wde open. The Outlaws have their work cut out for them this weekend as they play the undefeated Wolverines. In Week 10, the Mariners face the Lawmen.  Stay tuned as this race won't be over until the last game is played.
